Besides making devices such as light bulbs and solar cells more efficient, the method would also help to keep optical telecommunications networks moving. At the moment, many light frequencies are bounced down optical fibres simultaneously. If a particular frequency is being used to capacity, then optical switches could shift light beams to a frequency where there is still capacity to spare.

The Register

The Register As Marie says in her blog: "My initial piece of advice is to NEVER, EVER buy ANYTHING from Curry's or Dixons. The moment it goes wrong, you will find yourself in the utterly incapable hands of Mastercare (How many Mastercare employees does it take to provide good customer service? Unknown, it's never been tried.)."

Oh, and she's also reported the whole sorry incident to her local trading standards officer.

A spokesman for DSG said he would look into the matter. ®

IN THE MATRIX: MARTIN REES
Introductory Remarks by David Deutsch, Paul Davies, Lee Smolin, Alan Guth, Lisa Randall

All these multiverse ideas lead to a remarkable synthesis between cosmology and physics...But they also lead to the extraordinary consequence that we may not be the deepest reality, we may be a simulation. The possibility that we are creations of some supreme, or super-being, blurs the boundary between physics and idealist philosophy, between the natural and the supernatural, and between the relation of mind and multiverse and the possibility that we're in the matrix rather than the physics itself.

Ocean's New and Improved Homepage

This is my comic book area, where I give the general public access to view the information I have collected since 1988 about the comics books I own, or wish to own, most of which are from Marvel and D.C Comics. My current setup for this site is running Windows 2000 Server for my operating system, Asp.net and IIS 5 for my presentation, I am using MS SQL 2000 for my database, and MS Index Server to provide search engine like lookups of my comic book data. I did use some outside webites for information, for comic book issue summeries, these sites can be found in works cited. And for you stat's junkies who want to know how much information is in this db click here.

Did AMD's Athlon XP 3000 earn its rating?

Did AMD's Athlon XP 3000 earn its rating?

So if you're considering buying a Celeron-based system, just remember what PC World had to say about that processor: "But based on PC World's exclusive tests of a PC using the new Celeron, you should avoid it: This chip is all bark and no bite."

Did AMD's Athlon XP 3000 earn its rating?

Did AMD's Athlon XP 3000 earn its rating?

One can discuss the merits of whether AMD's model number nomenclature is fair and just. But as we do this we ignore a product that displays a level of inequality when measured against Athlon that cannot be ignored. It's called Celeron. For a similar price, and knowing how much better Athlon performs against Celeron, how many people would recommend to their friends, relatives, or colleagues a Celeron-based system? Not many I hope. But what actually happens is very different. For every Athlon that AMD sells, Intel probably sells at least two Celerons. Consumers and businesses continue this blind approach to IT expenditure.
