ias-people: "Minimalism
Taking an engineering bias, two significant constraints when using many agents are primarily those of the cost of manufacturing a significant number of robots and secondly reducing the power requirement.Firstly, although it is true that unit cost falls with number of manufactured units it is, of course, still true that the mass produced unit cost of a simple device will still be cheaper than that of a more complex device. It is thus worth exploring what can be achieved with simple devices. Itis also worth pointing out that the more simple a device is then the less there is to go wrong. Thus simple devices can confer robustness. Secondly,as a general rule a less sophisticated device will require less power than a more complex alternative"
