Via announces Hypertransport K8 support CHIPSET FIRM Via said it is now formally a member of the AMD Hypertransport consortium and will introduce its K8 Via chipsets – demoed at Computex – towards the end of the year.
Hypertransport is a high speed specification and Via said it would let semiconductors inside machines talk to each otehr at speeds nearly 50 times as fast as existing bus technologies.
What's interesting is that the company has now confirmed earlier reports at Computex that suggest third party chipset support will not materialise very quickly for the Hammer family.
Via, SIS and Nvidia are all officially saying that will come at the end of the year but we think it's going to be a tad later than that.
